Aircraft lessor AerCap announced last week that it has signed an agreement with the flag carrier of Belarus: Belavia – Belarusian Airlines. The agreement is for the lease of three Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, which are from AerCap’s order book with Embraer. AerCap was in fact the launch lessor customer of the new E-Jet E2. It has a total of 50 Embraer E190-E2s and E195-E2s owned and on order.
New jets for Belavia
The first aircraft of this lease is scheduled to deliver in less than a year, in December 2020. The remaining two aircraft will then arrive in March and April of 2021. As part of an official press release, an AerCap executive said the following:
“We are very pleased to announce the placement of three E2s with Belavia. We have a long history of working with our friends at Belavia, and we are excited to be a part of their fleet renewal plan…With the introduction of Embraer’s most advanced aircraft, Belavia will enjoy improved operating costs and versatility. We look forward to working with the Belavia and Embraer teams as these aircraft deliver.” -said Philip Scruggs, President and Chief Commercial Officer of AerCap
Deployment details
The new E195-E2 is designed to carry up to 125 passengers in a two-class configuration: nine seats in business class and 116 seats in economy. This new generation of airliners, the airline says, will fly such routes as London, Barcelona, Astana, Munich, Paris, Sochi and Amsterdam.
On the Belavia side, the airline’s CEO said that the airline has been updating its fleet over the last few years:
“We got three Embraer-195 and one Embraer-175 in 2019, in spring 2020 we are expecting to get one more Embraer-175, and on December of the current year our fleet will be replenished with absolutely new Embraer E195-E2.” -Anatoly Gusarov, CEO of JSC “Belavia”
Gusarov goes on to say that Belavia passengers admire E175 for its comfort. He adds that for the airline, a fleet renewal such as this gives them the possibility of improving the level of service with the added possibility of lowering airfares due to reduced operating costs. Certainly not something airline executives say too often these days!
Belavia’s current fleet
Belavia is very much a regional and continental player with no long-haul or intercontinental operations. In fact, the airline’s largest aircraft is the Boeing 737 – of which it has three variants: -300, -500, and -800. Its 737 fleet in total is 18-aircraft strong. Its other aircraft include two CRJ-200LRs as well as six Embraer E195s and four Embraer 175s.
