Air France today announced its latest route. The French flag carrier will begin to fly to Chennai in India from June 2020, utilizing the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

India isn’t a new market for Air France. In fact, the French airline already operates to three of the country’s larger cities. However, the airline is set to increase that number to four this summer. From July onwards, the red, white, and blue livery which adorns the airline’s fleet will be spotted in Chennai on the side of a Boeing 787 aircraft. The route will be able to transport up to 837 passengers in each direction when launched.
Three flights per week
Once launched, Air France will operate its flights from Paris to Chennai three times per week in either direction. The leg from Paris will depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Meanwhile, the return leg will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

The flights will operate to the following schedule following their launch on the 14th of June 2020:
- AF108 will depart from Paris’ Charles de Gaulle at 10:10 on the days indicated above. Following the flight, the aircraft will touch down in Chennai at 23:30.
- AF107 will then depart from Chennai at 01:05 on the following day, 1-hour and 35-minutes after its arrival. The night flight is then due to arrive back in Paris at 08:00 later that morning.
Tickets for the flight are not yet on sale. According to the airline, passengers will be able to purchase tickets from the 2nd of March onwards. As such, the airline is yet to announce how much tickets on the new route will set each passenger back.
Onboard the Air France Boeing 787
Air France will use its Boeing 787 Dreamliner, featuring three classes, on the route between Paris and Chennai. Let’s see what passengers onboard the aircraft can expect.

At the front of the aircraft is the business class cabin. This seats 30 passengers in a 1-2-1 layout with each seat facing away from the aisle. Air France has described its business class seats as “a real cocoon in the sky”.

Just behind the aircraft’s number 2 doors, the premium economy cabin begins. This seats just 27 passengers across three rows in a 2-3-2 configuration. Interestingly this is the same business class configuration onboard Emirates’ Boeing 777. Premium economy customers benefit from a recliner chair and a slightly more exclusive cabin.

Finally, the remainder of the 787’s cabin is taken up by the 3-3-3 layout of the economy class cabin. This seats the majority of the aircraft’s 279 passengers. 228 to be exact.
